That same instinct started with myself, long before it became how I work with people. I started in the corporate world, the path that seemed the most direct at the time. From the outside, it looked like exactly what success was supposed to look like: attorneys, executives, even a front-row seat to an IPO. But being good at something and it being authentic for you aren’t always the same thing. I did the job well and still felt like I was borrowing someone else’s version of success – an instinct in me was already looking for a way to build something of my own.
Leaving corporate led me to higher education, and it was immediately clear this work aligned with who I am. I spent years across nearly every part of that world: student services, administration, research, the Provost’s office, university clinical settings, at public universities, private universities, and community colleges alike. Understanding how people and systems actually worked wasn’t just interesting to me. It was where I found my own sense of empowerment.
That understanding is what sent me back to graduate school, to learn the art and skill of micro-work – working with people one-on-one. But the business and entrepreneurial side of me never quite settled, and eventually I went out on my own to build the work I’d envisioned all along: co-founding Granville Counseling Collective to help local therapists grow their businesses and expand their reach within the community, and starting my own private practice to offer therapy, mediation, and coaching.
None of that work looks the same from one setting or person to the next. I’ve never wanted it to. I see college students figuring out who they are, people well into a second or third act of life, neurodivergent minds that think differently, small business owners building something of their own. Different rooms, different people, same starting point: show up as yourself, and I’ll meet you there as mine.
